Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology is the use of technology tools that students with disabilities can use to participate with everything around them. Including opportunities for students with disabilities to participate in lessons allows them to be active in their learning. Including a revised activity with the use of assistive technology allows the students to show they are just as capable contributors as regular students are capable. An idea to include AAT in the activities could be to have the student use the AAT to post their responses or to create their results for others to see.
Lesson plans should include disabled students in the activities or discussions. I do agree that they should be included because the student shouldn't be penalized for their disability. They should be given every opportunity to display their capabilities rather than their disabilities. Students with disabilities are people too and need to communicate with others. Lesson plans that include participation of disabled students are good because they are not violating the students' rights to an adequate education. I think that if the activity allows ample time for the disabled student to produce the necessary response it is appropriate for the activity as well as the disabled student.
